Dragon Boat Events Ltd. in a historical UK first at Dorney Lake

Eleven Scouts' teams race off for a place in history by competing in a ground breaking UK first! Never in UK dragon boat racing has there ever been an eleven dragon boat race before, but on Thursday 2nd August 2007 and again on Friday 3rd, the first ever UK eleven dragon boat races were held!

(For any dragon boat company, six forty foot boats on the water at the same time is a large event, so to have an event where eleven dragon boats were not only on the water but racing at the same time was ... unpressedented!).

Nearly 2,000 Hampshire scouts qualify for their dragon boat badge over an exciting 2-day event.

For the last twenty years the Scouts have held a major world Jamboree, with each jamboree held in a different country to emphasise the international importance of the scouting movement. This year however, with August 1st marking exactly one hundred years since Robert Baden-Powell launched scouting back in 1907, the twenty first World Jamboree was held in the UK at Brownsea Island in Poole harbour, at the birthplace of Scouting.

As part of the centenary celebrations, the Hampshire Scout Jamboree activity program and Dragon Boat Events Ltd. made UK dragon boating history when on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd of August 2007, nearly 2,000 scouts qualified for their scout’s dragon boating badge at the Dorney Lake water sports centre near Windsor.

The company's experience in running large events, combined with the fact that Dragon Boat Events Ltd. are the only dragon boat company in the UK to be considered both safe and competant enough to have A.A.L.A. accreditation (and therefore be licensed to work safely with young people) meant the challenge proposed by scout's organising committee of getting nearly 2,000 scouts their dragon boating badge would no longer be ... the impossible dream.
